Ditto the Monster looks at the world of family friendly online games from a Fabricated American perspective

Daring Adventures of Ditto

Ditto was Definitely Abducted by Aliens….

So Alien Abduction is the story I’m sticking to…  Totally true, that’s what happened, the end….

Here is a new gameplay video, with Ditto delving deep into Khrysalis, fighting monsters to get stinky stuff to get through spiderwebs…  And then it got really crazy!!  Thankfully I met up with a great pick up group who helped me in the intense battle for the Moon Gem…  It was a lot of fun – I’m so glad to get back from my alien encounter so I can play again!   The audio does get messed up in there a bit – I have some technical issues, but it’s not too bad…

I’ll be back on and streaming more, now that the aliens let me go, but I’m not sure what to do about The Daring Adventures of Ditto?  I’ve been out of the game so long,  I’m not even sure where to start but hey, if people are still interested I can probably get Miss Narrator out of cold storage and start putting together some all new daring adventures…  Ditto’s Daring Adventures in the grocery store, daring adventures at the DMV, daring adventures eating pizza…   could be fun, right?

What’s Up with Ditto’s Daring Adventures?

As many of my readers and fans know, Ditto and Miss Narrator have been doing a segment on the Ravenwood Radio and Pieces of Eight radio podcasts for… a very long time.  We have missed a few episodes lately, and it looks like we’re not going to finish tomorrow’s Tales of The Sea episode on time, either.  I just wanted to say sorry about that – nothing is wrong, Ditto is not leaving Ravenwood Radio or Pieces of Eight Radio or anything like that, it’s just some poorly timed technical issues, which are finally fixed, and busy holiday stuff.  I am working on new episodes now – we were hoping to get this Tales of the Sea out on time, but it will definitely be ready for next time…

Anyway – sorry for not getting it out this week, but we’ll be back up and adventuring very soon!  We love doing the podcasts, and can’t wait for the next one!

Who can draw? Ditto looking for a little artistic help.

Hey everybody, Ditto here. I’m working on a project – or thinking about working on a project – and I’m looking for some funny artwork. What I’m looking for is an image of what a ‘Bad Ditto’ might look like – nothing gross or terrifying, it has to be family friendly, but I need a picture of a furry orange ‘Bad Ditto’. Oh, and it needs to be drawn, not just a picture of me photoshopped with horns and red eyes – I already tried that, didn’t care for it… Scared me a little.

I’ve tried drawing this myself, but I am terrible with drawing, so if anyone wants to try drawing a picture for me, if I use it it will be featured on DittoMonster.com and there may be a smallish reward too – not sure about that but I’ll try.

Here’s the bad news (you knew there had to be bad news) – if I’m going to move ahead with this idea I need the picture by this Sunday, August 12th, around noon, EST. This isn’t a contest or anything, I just want to do something cool and fun next week and hopefully this picture can be part of that.

If you want to try your hand at creating a ‘Bad Ditto’ picture for me with almost no notice and for little more than a mention on my blog and my heartfelt thanks, send the image to my email (dittowizard at gmail dot com) or even tweet it to me. If I get a bunch I can probably only choose one for this project, but I’ll make sure everyone who sends me a cool picture get some thanks 🙂

Ditto is looking for help on Daring Adventures!!

Hi everybody, Ditto here, and I’m looking for help. As people probably know, Ravenwood Radio recently played the final episode of the original ‘Daring Adventures of Ditto’, where Ditto and Madame Jasmine finally defeat Malistaire (sort of). It took around forty episodes and about two years to get through that whole series of adventures, from our first episodes in Krokotopia, through the ‘dirty street’ jokes of Marleybone, the terrors of Grlzzleheim, the lovely Chinese food smells of Mooshu, and finally the lava and ghost filled streets of Dragonspyre. It was fun and exciting and I know many people really enjoyed our adventures, and we are definitely going to continue them soon, but I’m thinking about doing something a little different, and would love to hear from the fans of Daring Adventures to help figure out what we do next.

First, once we got into them we realized that the original Daring Adventures were too epic in scale. I had such a grand goal – to defeat Malistaire, which at the time we started was the end of the whole game – and it took two years of episodes to get there. It was fun for the listeners, but it more or less locked us in to a single story line for that whole time. With the exception of a few one-off special episodes, Ditto and Madame Jasmine kept on the trail of Malistaire from start to finish, loosely following the quest lines of Wizard 101. For my next adventures, I’d like to create shorter stories I can tell in 4-6 episodes. They’ll all tie in together in the greater ‘Ditto Mythology’, but be individual self-contained stories – and that’s where you come in. What kind of stories are you interested in hearing?

20120314-091053.jpg

Do you want more of me questing through the spiral, exploring the depths of Celestia and Zafaria along the lines of the game? How about completely made-up Spiral adventures, like Derek Hexflame, building upon the existing Spiral mythology in my own unique way? I also know many people had fun with the various ‘Ditto-Style’ pop culture references we threw out there – how about retelling classic movies or TV shows as Daring Adventures? Ditto Skywalker and R2-Jasmine anyone?

So feel free to give feedback – Miss Narrator and I are gearing up to start recording some new Daring Adventures soon, with the strong possibility of a new player joining the group – but more on that later! We’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas!

Ditto!!

Video for Malistaire’s Lament! As heard on The Daring Adventures of Ditto and Ravenwood Radio!

I have gotten so much great feedback from this song, and had so many people ask me for an MP3 of it, that I wanted to do something fun and new with it, something I had never tried before, so I created a video for the song!!  I used cuts from the original Malistaire commercial for Wizard101 and some parts of the Malistaire battle cutscene.  I hope people like it – I really like how it came out!

The MP3 is also available here:

Malistaire’s Lament – MP3

Lyrics: (To the tune of ‘Jack’s Lament’ from Nightmare Before Christmas)

There are few who deny at what I do I am the best, my dark magic is renowned far and wide.
When it comes to surprises in the dragonspyre night, I excel without ever really trying,

With the slightest little effort of my death school charms,
I have seen grown kroks give out a shriek!

With the wave of my hand and a well placed spell,
I have swept the best of wizards off their feet…

But year after year it’s the same routine,
and I grow so wearing of the sound of screams…
I tire of this role, if they only understood,
I’d give it all up if I only could….

Ditto’s 200th YouTube Video – behind the scenes with Ditto and Miss Narrator!

So here it is – after about a year and a half (My first video was posted on February 16th, 2010)  and over 100,000 total views, I have reached the near-mythical 200th video!  Well, it’s a pretty big number to me, anyway.  My 100th video was… well… sad.   For this one, we wanted to do something very different, something we had never done before, so we decided to shoot a behind the scenes video as we recorded the latest episode of ‘The Daring Adventures of Ditto’!  Miss Narrator and I had a lot of fun doing this, and I REALLY appreciate the fact that Miss Narrator happily agreed to be on camera for the first time ever! I didn’t even have to bribe her with strawberry scented shampoo! We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!!

Tonight – Ravenwood Radio AND my 200th video!!

Tonight, be sure to tune in to Ravenwood Radio as they record Episode 43!!  There will be an all new Daring Adventures of Ditto, Episode 27, as Ditto and Madame Jasmine enter Dragonspyre, PLUS a special announcement at the end of the episode about my very special 200th YouTube video!!  It’s a big first for us, so you definitely do not want to miss it!!

A heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to Leesha Darkeart

As most people who are fans of Ravenwood Radio know, as of this weeks’ show the beloved Leesha Darkheart has stepped out from behind the microphones as co-host of the show so that she may pursue other things, though she will still be staying on in a production-type capacity and I’m sure will still be around the Wizard 101 community, keeping us all in line!

Though I never actually ‘met’ Leesha, we have gotten together a few times online and played in-game together, including our now infamous ‘A-Team’ assault on Big Ben, and she was always wonderful, funny, and of course had mad Necromancer skills that I still envy 🙂 and that’s hard for a Pyromnacer to admit, let me tell you!

Ditto and Friends in Big Ben

Ditto and friends in Big Ben

Of all our contact, the most memorable for me was early last year, shortly after I opened my blog. I had been a fan of Ravenwood Radio for a few episodes and had even done a quick birthday shout-out for someone on the show as a favor. The chat room seemed to like it and I got some really nice feedback, and I was already a big fan of the show segments, so I sent Leesha an email to see if she would be interested in an idea I had, for an ‘old-time radio serial’ styled piece. She answered back right away and loved the idea, which meant a LOT to me!! You see, believe it or not, it’s often hard for Fabricated Americans to be taken seriously in entertainment unless they are teaching kids how to count to ten or learn the alphabet in some brightly colored playground. A Fabricated American doing a serious (ahem) radio drama was unheard of at the time, so Leesha really stepped out on a limb to give me the opportunity at Ravenwood Radio, and I’ve always deeply appreciated that!

Fallon will be an amazing and worthy successor, I’m certain, and I can’t wait to hear more of her insights into the worlds of Wizard 101 and beyond, especially with her prowess in PvP (A segment of the game that is still a complete mystery to me), but I just want to sincerely thank Leesha for giving a monster a chance!

Thank you Leesha, for all you did for this furry orange monster, and for the Wizard 101 community as a whole! You will be missed!

PLOX!

It’s Ditto’s Anniversary!!

So one year ago today, a furry orange monster started playing an online game called Wizard 101, and decided it would be fun to blog about it, because he really couldn’t find any other Fabricated American bloggers out there. He started playing around with his roommates’ video camera and writing and talking about the game, and something cool happened – people started reading his blog, and watching his videos, and they liked him! That is to say they liked me, because him is me. And them is you, too, right? I think I confused myself again…

In any case, in the last year my blog has grown a lot, I have branched out from Wizard 101 – still my favorite game – to discussing a bunch of other games and topics, I’ve done interviews with people, and I’ve started writing for another site as well, MMOCrunch. It’s been an amazing year with a lot more great stuff to come, and I thank each and every person out there who reads my posts or follows me on Twitter or enjoys my videos, your feedback and support are what keep me going, that’s the part I love the most about all of this! I couldn’t do it without all of you!

What’s in a year??

Daring Adventures of Ditto Transcripts

There have been a few requests for something like this, so I have put a new section here on my blog, a tab on the top right for ‘Daring Adventures’ episode transcripts, for people that might have trouble downloading or listening to the audio versions. Each episode also has a link to the MP3 file and lists the episode of Ravenwood Radio it was originally part of.

Let me know of there are any comments or suggestions, thanks!!

Words can still hurt, even if you’re just typing them…

So last night’s Ravenwood Radio was a great show as always, and thanks again to Leesha and Steve for hosting such a wonderful webcast! Miss Narrator and I truly enjoy being a part of it, and it’s great to know through all the feedback I get that many other people enjoy our segment too.

So last night, as with pretty much every episode, Miss Narrator and I were listening in and, of course, participating in the chat room, because that’s one of my favorite parts of the Ravenwood Radio experience – that great chat room community. It’s always well moderated of course, and thanks to the excellent work of IcyWiz and the other mods it’s a fun and friendly place to hang out during the live webcast.

Anyway – so last night ‘The Daring Adventures of Ditto’ segment came on and many people cheered (thank you, we love that!), but there were a few who said some pretty negative things, mostly directed at Miss Narrator. I’m not going to say who or what was said, that’s not the point of this. The point is that she was right there, in the chat room, listening along and having a good time participating as these things were said about her. Of course the rest of the chat room immediately jumped to her defense, which she really and truly appreciated, but the initial attacks still stung.

I do a LOT of social media (being the #1 Fabricated American gaming blogger on the web, of course…) and I see this all the time on Facebook and other web forums and communities. People think they can type whatever they want about whoever they want and there’s no consequence, because ‘it’s just Facebook, everybody does it’, and then when there is a backlash there’s the eternal excuse ‘I was only kidding’. But unfortunately, by that point the damage has already been done. ‘Only kidding’ doesn’t really fix it.

So what’s my point? Well, it’s simple, really – if you’re talking to someone, or ABOUT someone, on the internet, always assume other people are going to see it. Always think about what the words really mean – not YOUR interpretation but what the words actually mean to other people reading them. Assume people don’t have the same background or frame of reference that you do, so they aren’t going to understand that you’re ‘only kidding’. Assume any conversation you have online is no different from a conversation you have in the middle of a room full of people who can all hear you. Assume that if you’re saying something bad about someone else, that they WILL find out about it. Think about how YOU would feel if someone said the same thing about you, or your friends, or your mom, or your wife.

‘But they started it!’ – See, I already knew what you were going to say. One benefit of the internet is that if someone ‘starts something’ on Facebook or a forum it’s very easy to walk away. Delete the comment, block the user, or just turn off the computer and step away. We don’t need to make things worse by blasting back and saying something in the heat of the moment that we’ll regret later.

So to close – just because you’re typing something on a computer using the name ‘Elmer Fancypants’ instead of your real name, don’t think that those words are any less ‘real’ than if you were saying them to the person sitting across the dining room table from you. Because actually, they are MORE real – because a lot more people can see them, and it’s very, very hard to take them back once they’re out there.

Thanks for listening…. Be good to one another, and I’ll See you in The Spiral!
