Madame Jasmine goes to the races…

My first try at the Pet Derby in the Pet Pavilion – we came in third, but it was so fun! Madame Jasmine had a good time too. I’m going to be doing a lot more of that…

Ditto Explores the Krokosphynx

I have started my explorations of the dark and mysterious Krokosphynx! I don’t get very far before I find myself face to face with my arch nemesis the dreaded Ice Spiders…

I made it to the Krokosphynx!

So I finally got my videos transferring again – had a bit of technical difficulty thanks to a virus software upgrade. And as a helpful tip – if you run AVG anti-virus, the ‘link checker’ scanner can prevent you from successfully transferring files to YouTube. You need to disable it to get that transfer to work. Something I wish I knew a week ago…

So without further ado – Ditto reaches the Krokosphynx!

The Pet Pavaillion is Open!!

So today Wizard 101 officially opened the Pet Pavilion today! I’m already patched up and hatched my first piggle egg, Sir Sam. Madame Jasmine is already having a great time too. Still not sure I’ll be shooting her out of a cannon, but I’m looking forward to some great Pet Derby races! I wonder what foods she’s going to like best?
Here are a few early pictures…

Ditto’s vBlog for May 23

Here’s my Video Blog this week – just me chatting about stuff. I didn’t put any script together so there’s a lot of babbling I think…

Another unplanned delay between posts

I wanted to apologize for the time between this post and my last. Nothing bad happened, just, you know, ‘life’ – and let me tell you, the life of a Fabricated American is no less complex than regular people’s lives. Sometimes – like job hunting – it can be much more difficult. There’s still a lot of anti-Fabricated American prejudices out there in many industries. sure we’ve made huge strides in children’s television and stand-up comedy, but even in 2010 there are still a lot of industries that won’t take a Fabricated American job candidate seriously…

So as you might have guessed from the above mini-rant, this hiatus was due to me job hunting yet again. My roommate has dropped a few subtle hints lately, like ‘Get a job or I’ll turn you into a dishtowel’, which indicated that it was once again time to start looking for gainful employment. Thankfully, as of yesterday I have a new job with actual pay, working at the local public library reading to kids. Well, OK, it’s sweeping the floors and general custodial services MOST of the time, but I do an hour a day for Storytime… Granted it’s during my lunch break and so far no children have stayed to listen – I wonder if I should have started out with something a little easier than ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’? Hey, it’s a paycheck and my roommate is off my furry orange back, so I’m happy!

I would have done this as a video blog entry, but I’m at work now and they don’t have a camera, so I’ll have to put more video blogs together tonight after work. Also, the library BLOCKS Wizard 101! Can you believe that?!?! Unbelievable, I know. I’m curious what the over/under is for me getting fired again? Stay in school kids!!!

So speaking of Wizard 101, I am now well on my way to level 21 and then on to level 22 and Meteor Storm!! I really can’t wait! However I have a minor dilemma now – I’m in the middle of Krokotopia, in the Krokosphynx now, but Headmaster Ambrose wants to send me on a new mission to Grizzleheim! So do I drop Krok and go where Merle tells me, or do I keep focusing on Krok until I’m through, then hit the Grizzleheim tasks before Marelybone? What do other people do?

Finally, thanks everyone who sent me warm wishes and appreciation for my ‘Daring Adventures of Ditto’ radio drama, and thanks so much to Ravenwood Radio for playing them!! I have a great time doing them and I’m glad people are enjoying them – there’s definitely more coming. I do have to fire that narrator some day, though…

Ditto’s Video Blog for May 6, 2010…

Ditto was on Ravenwood Radio last night!! I had so much fun making my ‘Daring Adventures of Ditto’ spot – did people like it? I hope people liked it! I’m going to do more of them and hopefully will keep getting them played on Ravenwood Radio – thanks so much to everyone who helped me do that!!

Anyway, here is this week’s video blog – Ditto is trying a new camera and it’s not as high-def but much easier to use so let me know what you think of this week’s vBlog… PLOX!

Battling Pike SpiritCrusher

Here is the finale of my epic boss fight. After defeating those nasty ice spiders I had to duel their boss, the cyclops Pike SpiritCrusher. Pike was pretty annoyed with me after I told him Pike was the name of a fish, and the battle commenced. Thankfully I was victorious, since I did not want to duel those ice spiders again…

And does anyone know why his Ghoul spell was able to bypass my Spirit Armor? It absorbed damage from his other spells after that, but Ghoul seemed to do full damage? Do death spells bypass those absorbs? If so, that’s pretty sweet… For death school, anyway. Kind of a bummer for me.

Pet Pavillion!!!

So I’ve been playing with the new pets system on the test world. Overall I love it, the derby is lots of fun and I like the pet systems. The mini games seem a little weak to me – the ‘dancing pets’ game is simple but amusing, the ‘falling food’ game is neither simple nor amusing, it’s just confusing.

Madame Jasmine is having a blast. I’ve been trying different snacks with her and I’ve done a few races in the derby, I’ve even won a couple. I haven’t taken any video, but it’s on my to-do list. Even if this were the only thing coming out with Celestia, I think I’d be excited, but the best part is that this is just the first taste of things to come. I’m certainly looking forward to lots more!!

For people who want more detailed info, I’ve been going to Diary of a Wizard most of the day, they’ve been posting great updates based on their test server experiences and they’ve already got some guides up, so check them out!

Ditto versus the Ice Spiders…

Here it is, my epic (10+ minute) battle against two ice spiders in Spirit Crusher’s Tomb. Many fire shields and no fire elf cards made for a really long fight, but I was victorious in the end!! It does teach me that I need to work on my treasure cards more and that I need a good shield breaker, as my staff (Ascendant Staff) casts balance, not fire….

Fighting the Good Fight

So I just fought what seemed like the longest fight of my Wizard 101 life, and not against a boss, but against two silly Ice Crawlers, little ice school spiders. Why did it take so long? The did nothing but throw up fire shields, and I wasn’t getting any fire elves! I have a video of it, but I need to edit it before I post because YouTube has a 10 minute limit, and this fight went longer than that! After that and then the boss fight against Pike Soulcrusher after it, I think I need a nap….

Ditto’s vBlog of the week

Hey folks, time for another Ditto’s Video Blog, where I talk about Mr. Krabs in Celestia, general Krokotopia fun, and ask about what other videos you want to see… Hope you enjoy!

Sightseeing in Krokotopia

I must say, after spending so much time in Wizard City, with it’s winding streets lined with buildings, Krokotopia is completely different and amazing in so many ways. You can really feel the age of the place, the history of the ancient Krok and Mander races tied up in those ancient monuments and tombs.

The Library in Krokotopia

Digby and Madame Jasmine visit the Library in Krokotopia.

Madame Jasmine and I headed for the library – being a student I do still focus on my magical education, and these ancient Kroks obviously had access to some pretty serious magic. Make the Helephant look like a Bichon Frise by comparison, I’m sure.

A mysterious portal in Krokotopia.

What is this portal and where could it lead?

After the Library, while talking with the Mander Hetch Al’Dim, an amazing and somewhat scary portal opened up, a huge sphinx head emerging from the earth as lightning shot around. Madam Jasmine was scared (OK, Ditto was a little scared too!) but Hetch told us not to worry and that, some day soon, we, too, would be passing through that terrifying portal to a place that many braver souls than we had dared not enter…

The Great Pyramid in Krokotopia

Digby and Madame JAsmine pose for a tourist shot

One of the most amazing structures in Krokotopia – aside from the legendary Krokopshinx – is the Great Pyramid. Madame Jasmine and I took the typical tourist shots here, but I must say I was truly impressed and amazed by the sheer scale of the pyramid, and only became more impressed and awe-struck when we got inside. These ancient Krokotopians were amazing, truly brilliant and talented artisans. It’s sad that sand-filled tombs and ghosts is all that remains of this one proud people.

Digby and MAdame Jasmine in the Great Pyramid

Fire School money shot...

Of course the great pyramid is still full of powerful Fire Magic, as any Pyromancer can tell as soon as they set foot in the amazing entrance hall. After talking with Professor Winthrop about the unfortunate goings-on there in the tomb and Krokotopia as a whole, Madame Jasmine and I took some typical Fire School tourist shots to share with our teacher, Professor Falmea.

I feel that I will be exploring Krokotopia for quite a long time, as the place is huge and, sadly, there is much trouble here, stirred up by the evil Malistaire. I’m still a young student, only just having reached level 16, but thanks to my lessons with professor Falmea I am proving to be a formidable opponent to all but the most dangerous of the foes I face here in the dusty tombs. I look forward to more exploration and discovery!

Indiana Ditto and the Temple of Krok!

As I adventure through the spooky old tombs of ancient Krokotopia I feel like a daring archeologist, battling evil villains and avoiding traps to collect priceless artifacts and, some day soon, the Krokonomicon itself!!!
Oh, and can I just say I’m really happy about the Lovecraft homage there – made me laugh when I heard about it.

Also, in this video, I make level 16!! Just got my fire trap spell, which really amps up the damage. I just wish that the damage bonus would apply to each round of a DOT spell, not just the initial hit. It’s frustrating when I’ve got a fire trap and a fire blade ready but all I have to cast are fire elf cards…

Ditto defeats the Nirini Boss!

Second time’s a charm – I fought Biti Nirini again and got him this time! Good fight, I was able to sunbird the sentry on the first turn (thank you again Ascendant Staff!!!) and then was able to focus fully on the boss.
At a critical part of the fight I actually discarded a Sunbird instead of casting it – one of the curses of only having three fingers, clicking on the wrong button – and the fight went on a bit longer than I had hoped. It was a real nail biter there at the end, I was left with only 78 points of health when I finally took him down!!!

Here is some interesting news….

Not Wizard 101 related but I just saw this on Kotaku.com – I think it’s of interest to people around here because I have a strong suspicion that Warner Brothers and Turbine joining forces might mean another wizarding-school themed online game in our future? It’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility, anyway. What does everyone else think?

Lord of the Rings Online team snatched up by Warner Bros

Ditto’s first Krokotopian boss fight….

And it doesn’t go well. I lost! Very tough fight, and I fizzled at just the wrong time and went down in flames… Very sad.

Ditto arrives in Krokotopia!!

After much questing and dueling, I have finally arrived – via my trusty in-game avatar Digby – to the amazing Krokotopia!!! What amazing adventures await me in this mystical and magical land!! I can’t wait to find out!

Ditto defeats the Gobblers!!

My final battle against the Prince of the Gobblers was a good fight, came pretty close to losing thanks to a couple fizzles, but a well placed heal spell kept me in the fight. Once I defeated the two barons and the prince, the Gobbler King had no choice but to bow to my pyromancer skills…

Ditto fights Baron Rotunda!

One of the big Gobbler boss fights, Baron Rotunda was tricky but I beat him just fine!! I did learn the agony of the dreaded ‘Two points left? He’s only got two points left!” when I hit his minion with a Sunbird…

Ditto Battles Baron Greebly

The first of the Gobbler Baron fights, this one went just about as perfect as a boss fight can go! Sunbird first turn to take out the minion, then lots of DOT stacked on the Baron, taking him down quick and clean!

More of Digby’s Adventures in Wizard City…

Good morning fellow students!
So I have been doing so much adventuring in Wizard City with my little Pyromancer Digby! We have been through Unicorn Way, Triton Avenue, the very spooky Haunted Cave, and are now fighting Gobblers in Collosus Boulevard. Digby is now level 14, just a hair away from Level 15, and we’re about ready to finish up Collosus Blvd. and head over to Krokotopia!!

Digby Meets the Gobbler King

Digby Meets the Gobbler King

Of course, I have another task ahead of me – I’ve just gotten the Sunken City quest! I’ve heard that this is not for the faint of heart and should be done in a group, so I think I’m going to appeal to friends to maybe pick a time and help me out with that one. I’m excited to try it, but it seems pretty intense.

So speaking of intense, I tried crafting. OK, Crafting is not at all intense, but it was an easy segue. I talked to Eudora Tangletree, who gave me a wonderful crafting table and then sold me a recipe for the Dagger of Absolution in order to complete her quest…

Now, let me tell you, that’s a pretty good scam right there. She’s got a quest for you, gets you all eager to become a novice crafter, then she tells you that you have to pay her and her shady henchman for the stuff you need to complete her quest… Seems fishy to me, anyway.

So I crafted my two daggers – was a little underwhelmed by the process, to be honest – and got my novice crafter badge and another quest to talk to an even BETTER crafter in… dun dun dun…. Krokotopia!! So now I’ve got anyother reason to get my furry orange self over there to the land of sand and… yikes… beetles and lizards. Gulp.

Finally – I’ve nearly level 15 and I’ve got a good feel for my Fire School spells, I’m really loving the big hits from my Sunbird and stacking muliple damage over time spells and watching my enemies wither to defeat. I’m thinking I want to explore more options on my secondary school, though… I’ve been fighting lots of ice minions in Collosus Blvd. and I like some of their spells – they’ve got some solid shields and such. Balance seems pretty cool too – you can buff and shield against lots of things. I’ve got a few training points rattling around in my pocket right now (Metaphorically – I don’t actually have any pockets) and I’m curious how I’d want to spend them. Anyone have any suggestions?

See you in The Spiral…. PLOX!
