Ditto the Monster looks at the world of family friendly online games from a Fabricated American perspective

Wizard 101

Fighting the Good Fight

So I just fought what seemed like the longest fight of my Wizard 101 life, and not against a boss, but against two silly Ice Crawlers, little ice school spiders. Why did it take so long? The did nothing but throw up fire shields, and I wasn’t getting any fire elves! I have a video of it, but I need to edit it before I post because YouTube has a 10 minute limit, and this fight went longer than that! After that and then the boss fight against Pike Soulcrusher after it, I think I need a nap….

Ditto’s vBlog of the week

Hey folks, time for another Ditto’s Video Blog, where I talk about Mr. Krabs in Celestia, general Krokotopia fun, and ask about what other videos you want to see… Hope you enjoy!

Sightseeing in Krokotopia

I must say, after spending so much time in Wizard City, with it’s winding streets lined with buildings, Krokotopia is completely different and amazing in so many ways. You can really feel the age of the place, the history of the ancient Krok and Mander races tied up in those ancient monuments and tombs.

The Library in Krokotopia

Digby and Madame Jasmine visit the Library in Krokotopia.

Madame Jasmine and I headed for the library – being a student I do still focus on my magical education, and these ancient Kroks obviously had access to some pretty serious magic. Make the Helephant look like a Bichon Frise by comparison, I’m sure.

A mysterious portal in Krokotopia.

What is this portal and where could it lead?

After the Library, while talking with the Mander Hetch Al’Dim, an amazing and somewhat scary portal opened up, a huge sphinx head emerging from the earth as lightning shot around. Madam Jasmine was scared (OK, Ditto was a little scared too!) but Hetch told us not to worry and that, some day soon, we, too, would be passing through that terrifying portal to a place that many braver souls than we had dared not enter…

The Great Pyramid in Krokotopia

Digby and Madame JAsmine pose for a tourist shot

One of the most amazing structures in Krokotopia – aside from the legendary Krokopshinx – is the Great Pyramid. Madame Jasmine and I took the typical tourist shots here, but I must say I was truly impressed and amazed by the sheer scale of the pyramid, and only became more impressed and awe-struck when we got inside. These ancient Krokotopians were amazing, truly brilliant and talented artisans. It’s sad that sand-filled tombs and ghosts is all that remains of this one proud people.

Digby and MAdame Jasmine in the Great Pyramid

Fire School money shot...

Of course the great pyramid is still full of powerful Fire Magic, as any Pyromancer can tell as soon as they set foot in the amazing entrance hall. After talking with Professor Winthrop about the unfortunate goings-on there in the tomb and Krokotopia as a whole, Madame Jasmine and I took some typical Fire School tourist shots to share with our teacher, Professor Falmea.

I feel that I will be exploring Krokotopia for quite a long time, as the place is huge and, sadly, there is much trouble here, stirred up by the evil Malistaire. I’m still a young student, only just having reached level 16, but thanks to my lessons with professor Falmea I am proving to be a formidable opponent to all but the most dangerous of the foes I face here in the dusty tombs. I look forward to more exploration and discovery!

Indiana Ditto and the Temple of Krok!

As I adventure through the spooky old tombs of ancient Krokotopia I feel like a daring archeologist, battling evil villains and avoiding traps to collect priceless artifacts and, some day soon, the Krokonomicon itself!!!
Oh, and can I just say I’m really happy about the Lovecraft homage there – made me laugh when I heard about it.

Also, in this video, I make level 16!! Just got my fire trap spell, which really amps up the damage. I just wish that the damage bonus would apply to each round of a DOT spell, not just the initial hit. It’s frustrating when I’ve got a fire trap and a fire blade ready but all I have to cast are fire elf cards…

Ditto defeats the Nirini Boss!

Second time’s a charm – I fought Biti Nirini again and got him this time! Good fight, I was able to sunbird the sentry on the first turn (thank you again Ascendant Staff!!!) and then was able to focus fully on the boss.
At a critical part of the fight I actually discarded a Sunbird instead of casting it – one of the curses of only having three fingers, clicking on the wrong button – and the fight went on a bit longer than I had hoped. It was a real nail biter there at the end, I was left with only 78 points of health when I finally took him down!!!

Ditto’s first Krokotopian boss fight….

And it doesn’t go well. I lost! Very tough fight, and I fizzled at just the wrong time and went down in flames… Very sad.

Ditto arrives in Krokotopia!!

After much questing and dueling, I have finally arrived – via my trusty in-game avatar Digby – to the amazing Krokotopia!!! What amazing adventures await me in this mystical and magical land!! I can’t wait to find out!

Ditto defeats the Gobblers!!

My final battle against the Prince of the Gobblers was a good fight, came pretty close to losing thanks to a couple fizzles, but a well placed heal spell kept me in the fight. Once I defeated the two barons and the prince, the Gobbler King had no choice but to bow to my pyromancer skills…

Ditto fights Baron Rotunda!

One of the big Gobbler boss fights, Baron Rotunda was tricky but I beat him just fine!! I did learn the agony of the dreaded ‘Two points left? He’s only got two points left!” when I hit his minion with a Sunbird…

Ditto Battles Baron Greebly

The first of the Gobbler Baron fights, this one went just about as perfect as a boss fight can go! Sunbird first turn to take out the minion, then lots of DOT stacked on the Baron, taking him down quick and clean!

More of Digby’s Adventures in Wizard City…

Good morning fellow students!
So I have been doing so much adventuring in Wizard City with my little Pyromancer Digby! We have been through Unicorn Way, Triton Avenue, the very spooky Haunted Cave, and are now fighting Gobblers in Collosus Boulevard. Digby is now level 14, just a hair away from Level 15, and we’re about ready to finish up Collosus Blvd. and head over to Krokotopia!!

Digby Meets the Gobbler King

Digby Meets the Gobbler King

Of course, I have another task ahead of me – I’ve just gotten the Sunken City quest! I’ve heard that this is not for the faint of heart and should be done in a group, so I think I’m going to appeal to friends to maybe pick a time and help me out with that one. I’m excited to try it, but it seems pretty intense.

So speaking of intense, I tried crafting. OK, Crafting is not at all intense, but it was an easy segue. I talked to Eudora Tangletree, who gave me a wonderful crafting table and then sold me a recipe for the Dagger of Absolution in order to complete her quest…

Now, let me tell you, that’s a pretty good scam right there. She’s got a quest for you, gets you all eager to become a novice crafter, then she tells you that you have to pay her and her shady henchman for the stuff you need to complete her quest… Seems fishy to me, anyway.

So I crafted my two daggers – was a little underwhelmed by the process, to be honest – and got my novice crafter badge and another quest to talk to an even BETTER crafter in… dun dun dun…. Krokotopia!! So now I’ve got anyother reason to get my furry orange self over there to the land of sand and… yikes… beetles and lizards. Gulp.

Finally – I’ve nearly level 15 and I’ve got a good feel for my Fire School spells, I’m really loving the big hits from my Sunbird and stacking muliple damage over time spells and watching my enemies wither to defeat. I’m thinking I want to explore more options on my secondary school, though… I’ve been fighting lots of ice minions in Collosus Blvd. and I like some of their spells – they’ve got some solid shields and such. Balance seems pretty cool too – you can buff and shield against lots of things. I’ve got a few training points rattling around in my pocket right now (Metaphorically – I don’t actually have any pockets) and I’m curious how I’d want to spend them. Anyone have any suggestions?

See you in The Spiral…. PLOX!

Ditto’s Weekly vBlog

Just me, DittoWizard, talking about my favorite game and some other general stuff…

OK Kingsisle I get it, I lost…

I have now gotten four emails from KI informing me I lost their Facebook contest. I get it, I lost, and I am sad about it – there’s no need to rub it in…

Where am I?????

So I jump into the Spiral today and am on a quest to go see Professor Drake, who is a scary guy… so I go into his tower with Princess Daisy and my new Egg wand, and all of a sudden I am in some completely DIFFERENT PLACE!!! And it is VERY SCARY!! There are big dragons and rivers of lava and all kinds of crazy things!! And there are monsters ALL OVER THE PLACE that say things like ‘Rank 8 Elite’… RANK 8???? Ditto has trouble with RANK 2!! I ran around looking at things, it’s very very scary here!! I did not have my video camera to take film but I did take screenshots….

This very not good!! Ditto is very lost and scared and a bit confused! This place is very intimidating!!

Update: OK so apparently Ditto is in Dragonspire, which for a level 16 Pyromancer seems to be a very bad thing. I got eaten by something just a few minutes ago. It was so big it didn’t even bother to duel me – it just walked up and ate me. I think I heard it burp as I re-appeared near Professor Drake, who then laughed at me and said something rude that I will not repeat here… He’s not very nice.

Rain Rain go away….

So as many people probably know, the Easter part of the US (Where I live) has been getting heavy rains for what feels like a month… and I HATE having wet fur. It’s very uncomfortable. Just imagine having all your clothes wet and heavy on you, and not being able to take them off… it’s not fun, believe me!

Adding to the problems was an internet outage I’ve been dealing with thanks to all the rain – apparently networking equipment doesn’t like being underwater or something like that. Well, that’s all taken care of today and it looks like the rain has FINALLY stopped, so we can start drying out – I’ll be running the hair dryer most of the day if anyone needs me. After that I will be jumping into the wonderful Spiral – I’ve just started adventuring in Colossus boulevard now, that’s scary and exciting, and I’ve got the key to Krokotopia, but I haven’t used it yet – I want to make sure the camera is rolling on that one. Maybe I’ll do that tonight or tomorrow.

I’m SO excited to get to my next world, I really am! Krokoopia sounds amazing! I’ve got a few levels to go (6, I think) before I get my Meteor Strike spell – I’m wondering if I should wait until then before venturing to Krokotopia? I assume I’ll be fighting multiple enemies from this point on, I have to think that getting Meteor Strike will make that much easier for me. Any suggestions from other people who have been there?

Ditto, The Headmaster, and The Kindly Tree…

After finding out that the Death school had fallen into Nightside, I went to tell the headmaster (Of course). He sent me to talk to the great tree Bartleby. I fed him a potion and he told me quite a tale! OK, I didn’t understand a word of it, but I don’t talk to trees much…

Ditto Finds Stormdrain tower!

On a quest I find the very spooky Stormdrain Tower, where Madame Jasmine and I have to fight Lord Nightshade, a terrifying bad guy, and his field Guard minion! It was a good fight, touch and go for a little while, but I was eventually victorious!!

New Expansion coming soon!!

So Headmaster Ambrose made a HUGE announcement today about new things coming to the spiral and I can tell you, THIS Fabricated American is VERY excited!! Here’s the announcement from the Wizard 101 site..

We’re proud to announce details on two of the major content updates for 2010. An extensive Advanced Pet system is launching this spring and the world of Celestia is launching late summer. In addition to all new quests the Celestia expansion will also include an increased level cap and new secondary schools of magic.

Coming this spring, players will have the opportunity to hatch customized pets from millions of potential combinations. The Advanced Pet system will bring a new dimension of interaction within Wizard101 as players can race their pets in the expansive Pet Derby, participate in new pet-themed minigames, feed and train them, and use them as allies in magic duels. Players will be able to level their pets from an egg to ancient beings with incredible powers.

The new world of Celestia is inspired by Atlantis, and young Wizards will encounter new adventures and quests deep under the sea. Celestia also increases the level cap in Wizard101 from level 50 up to level 60, as well as introducing three new secondary schools of magic. Celestia will officially open in late summer. Starting in June players can undertake new quests to discover the secrets of this new world and begin to unlock the story behind Celestia.

Decorating the Dorm Room

So in all my adventures I had been getting lots of little items that were for ‘decorating’ – so I decided to decorate my dorm room. It was very fun and I was amazed at all the options that were available. Now I REALLY can’t wait to get a house – especially since I couldn’t plant my elm tree in the middle of my dorm room! I’ll bet if I were a dedicated life student I could do that…
School houses seem pretty expensive but I’ll bet by level 20 I could probably afford one…

Spiral Network News

So I, Ditto, your favorite orange furry Fabricated American, decided to start talking about fun and important Spiral news and, because it sounded fun and cool I’m calling it ‘Spiral Network News’. I’ll probably try to do it once a week – everybody tell me what you think…

Springtime in The Spiral

I have been enjoying a really wonderful time out there in ‘The Spiral’ as it’s called, running all around to help that very nice Headmaster Ambrose. I feel bad that his school – and Wizard City in general – are pretty crazy right now, what with all the monsters roaming around the streets and taking over those big towers! I hope that Malistaire really gets what’s coming to him!

So far I’m learning a lot about fire magic from Dalia Falmea, my teacher – she’s really cool, or, um, hot, as the case may be… My life school teacher is a cow – no seriously, she’s an actual cow, Moolinda Wu, and so far she hasn’t shown me much. I don’t think she trusts pyromancers very much. At least I’m not death school – you should HEAR what she says about them. Made all my fur stand on end, let me tell you! Let’s just say that behind closed doors that bovine has some strong opinions…

I did watch a PVP match as a spectator, watching a higher level pyromnacer laying the smack down on what I believe was a balance student. I was a little concerned at first, but then what I assume had to be the ‘helephant’ came out and that’s all she wrote. Massive damage, smoldering crater, the whole thing. I can’t wait to see what I get next – Sunbird is a nice spell and I’ve taken out more than a few baddies with it, but I want to learn the BIG stuff… I must be patient though – don’t want to singe my fur!

Soon I’m going to start decorating my dorm room and saving up for a house. I’ve seen the school houses and I’m not sure which I want yet… While I like the Fire School house and I know I should show some ‘school spirit’, I’m really impressed by the Storm School house! It will be a while before I have the gold for that, I’m sure, so I’ve got plenty of time to make up my mind!

Finally, once I’m through with all the quests in Wizard City, which will probably still take a while as I’m a monster who likes to be thorough and finish everything in one area before moving to the next, I’m really looking forward to the next world I’ll get to visit, and I still can’t wait to get back to Grizzleheim and talk to hose nice bears again!

Ditto Says Hello

Just another quick video blog to say hello, but I realized I didn’t have very much to say… So, hello 🙂

Helping the Headmaster!

And apparently I made the official Fansites page!!

Now I feel extra bad for being away so long because I officially got added to the list of Wizard 101 fansites on Wizard101.com! This is a very exciting honor for a humble Fabricated American such as myself. I pledge to all my readers never again to let mundane things like a job or family keep me away from The spiral for extended periods any more… Thank you.
